MONITOR BATTERY HEALTH
Measuring battery health is more than just
manually checking battery water levels
daily. Many forklift fleet management
systems enable you to monitor the
performance of your batteries remotely
so you can better understand how
their charge / discharge cycles evolve
over time. That information is vital to
troubleshooting potential maintenance
issues before they lead to premature
battery failure. Using monitoring
technology, you can identify the remaining
cycles and life left for each battery and
create accurate battery performance
profiles. Understanding battery health
also allows you to forecast replacement
requirements.
As discussed in Chapter 2, the power study
can provide a baseline against which you can
measure progress made toward achieving
your operational goals. It can also inform best
practices, which can help you accelerate or
maintain that progress.

TRACK YOUR BATTERIES
If you are not yet at the stage of
implementing battery health monitoring,
you should regularly document – no less
than annually – the condition and capacity
of each battery and conduct battery tests.
You can do this by creating an accurate
inventory and capacity baseline of your
batteries and updating that list regularly.
This will help you better understand how
your battery needs change, especially as
your applications and equipment change.
