EVOLVE YOUR CHARGING STRATEGY
The data collected from your power study can help you more accurately identify which charging
method(s) or charging frequency works best for your forklift fleet and operation.
The most common method, conventional charging, is typically used for lead-acid batteries and
allows for a complete recharge after the battery is discharged during normal operations. The study
may reveal situations within an application that allow for opportunity or fast charging of lead-acid
batteries. This can also be especially important if you are considering lithium-ion batteries, as they
can prove to be more efficient through opportunity charging without adversely affecting the battery’s
overall life.
You can use additional information from the power study and monitoring technology to determine
how many chargers you need to support your fleet and where they should be placed in your facility
to help save time and increase productivity.

LEVERAGE TELEMATICS
If you are not already utilizing data analytics to enhance your forklift fleet management, conducting a
power study is an ideal way to begin exploring the value of telematics.
Power usage and battery performance data can be a manageable stepping-off point for utilizing data
analytics. Monitoring forklift power utilization after the power study will
help you implement a plan that ensures accountability and action
based on the data being gathered.
It can also make it easier to put the
processes, resources, support (internal
and external) in place and commit to
make decisions and take action based on
what the data tells you. It also provides
an opportunity to determine how you will
measure progress and success of these
data-supported decisions.
