Glossary
• BDI: battery discharge indicator, truck mounted
indicator showing discharge status of installed battery.
• BMID: battery monitor identification device, facilitates
communication between a battery and a connected
battery charger.
• Conventional Charging: complete recharging of a
battery after it has been paritally or fully discharged
during normal operations.
• Equalization: an extended charge time past the
normal full charge point used to balance the individual
cell voltage values. Lead-acid batteries must be
equalized weekly.
• Fast Charging: charging a battery at consistent
opportunities, maintaining a battery charge between
30 to 80 percent of its capacity, but using a greater
number of amps into the battery, resulting in a higher
rate of Ah return.
• Opportunity Charging: charging a battery at
consistent opportunities, maintaining a battery charge
between 20 to 80 percent of its capacity, whenever the
battery can be plugged into the charger for 10 minutes
or longer.
• Cycle:
– Lead Acid Conventional: Any discharge and full
charge event.
– Lead Acid Opportunity and Fast: Cycle is not applicable
based on amp hr throughput.
– TPPL/Lithium: Cycle is not applicable based on amp
hr throughput.
